Police Officer Charged with Robbery with Violence

A police officer has been charged with robbery with violence after detectives linked him to two armed robberies in Mtito Andei.

Dennis Wafula Wanabisi, stationed at DCI Kibwezi, was arrested by officers from the Serious Crimes Unit and DCI Ruiru. Investigators believe he was involved in two violent robberies at Yikisaya Trading Centre on July 22, 2024.

The Robbery Incidents

  • Four armed robbers, dressed in jungle uniforms, stormed 021 Club at Yikisaya Trading Centre.
  • They threatened bar attendants and customers, demanding their valuables.
  • A bar attendant was shot in the stomach and seriously injured.
  • The gang escaped with Ksh 50,000.

The robbers then moved to Seton Night Club at Darajani Shopping Centre.

  • They fired two shots into the air.
  • They stole Ksh 25,850 and two mobile phones from customers and staff.

Police Investigations

Preliminary investigations linked Wanabisi to the crimes.

  • His firearm was seized for analysis.
  • Ballistic tests confirmed that cartridges recovered from both crime scenes were fired from his weapon.

Wanabisi was arraigned at Makindu Law Courts, where detectives secured a 14-day custodial order to complete investigations.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has condemned the incident, stating that any police officer involved in criminal activities will face the full force of the law.
