A helicopter went down in the Marondera Rural area of Zimbabwe on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at about 5 p.m., with no survivors among the seven people on board.

Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana said the aircraft was carrying a high‑profile businessman, three other passengers and two pilots, confirming that all seven occupants perished.

The businessman identified was Wicknell Munodaani Chivayo, 43, founder and managing director of Intratrek Zimbabwe (Private) Limited.

The crash site lay roughly 70 kilometres east of Harare, prompting emergency services to attend the scene while police opened an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Mangwana added that the Zimbabwe Republic Police would formally confirm the identities of those killed after completing the identification process.

Although the initial government statement did not name the victims, local media later reported Chivayo’s death following the crash.

Chivayo was widely known for his involvement in major business and government‑linked projects, including Intratrek’s participation in the 100 MW Gwanda solar power project.

The circumstances that led to the helicopter’s descent remain under investigation, with authorities expected to release further details as the formal identification process continues.
