The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) issued a procurement notice on behalf of the government for the Roads for Rural Economic Development Project, a World Bank‑financed programme valued at KSh 77.7 billion (about USD 600 million).
The project targets roughly 536 km of road network across seven counties – Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Kericho, Bomet, Nandi, Narok and Nakuru – in the Rift Valley region.
Under the first component, KeNHA will upgrade the identified roads to bituminous standard with climate‑resilient designs, construct bridges at selected sites, improve road‑safety features and lay fibre‑optic cables where required.
The second component will deliver community socio‑economic infrastructure in the same counties, based on a needs‑assessment study, while the third component focuses on upgrading three cross‑border trade stations – Olposimoru, Nyamtiro and Kopanga – with new buildings and digital systems.
A fourth component is dedicated to institutional strengthening, covering road‑sector planning, project‑implementation capacity and maintenance management through procurement of goods and services.
All procurement activities will follow World Bank procedures as set out in the Procurement Regulations for IPF Borrowers, revised in September 2025, and will be open to any eligible firm or individual defined under those rules.
Contracts subject to open international competitive tendering will be advertised on the World Bank’s external website, the KeNHA website and in at least one national newspaper.
Interested parties can obtain further information by contacting the Deputy Director of Supply Chain Management at KeNHA’s offices in Barabara Plaza, Nairobi.
