On Saturday, 17 October, Winnie Odinga joined a TikTok livestream to discuss her interest in the Nairobi Senate seat, which she announced two days earlier.
During the broadcast, she addressed fellow contender Jalang'o, describing him as her uncle from Gem and urging him to withdraw from the race, saying he has already earned enough money.
The TikTok session featured a grid of participants, with Odinga appearing visibly tired after a long day but engaging warmly with the hosts and the audience.
Hosts of the livestream expressed support for Odinga’s bid, stating that Nairobi has already decided who should represent the county in the Senate.
Jalang'o, the incumbent Lang'ata MP, has also signalled his intention to run for the same seat on the ODM ticket and enjoys backing from a faction of politicians.
Odinga has not yet confirmed the party under which she will contest, though she was previously linked to ODM, which is currently experiencing internal turbulence after the ouster of former secretary‑general Edwin Sifuna.
Sifuna’s departure led to the formation of the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which is gaining national recognition and support.
At the close of the livestream, Odinga thanked the hosts and admitted she was still learning the platform’s features.
