Wells Fargo Bank has ended the employment of Diego Sarabia, who had worked at its Charlotte, North Carolina branch since 2022, after the Tompkins County District Attorney announced the reopening of a criminal investigation into an alleged assault that occurred at Cornell University in October 2024.

The alleged incident took place at the Chi Phi fraternity house, where a woman identified in court documents as Jane Doe claims she was drugged and sexually assaulted after drinking at a nearby bar.

Sarabia is one of seven Cornell alumni named in the civil lawsuit filed by Jane Doe, which alleges that several fraternity members, including Sarabia, entered the room and participated in the assault.

The Tompkins County District Attorney said the case will be presented to a grand jury, although no criminal charges have yet been filed against Sarabia or any of the other men named in the suit.

Despite the lack of formal charges, the renewed prosecutorial interest prompted Wells Fargo to act swiftly, resulting in Sarabia’s termination.

Both Wells Fargo and Sarabia have not responded to requests for comment regarding the dismissal.
