WayaWaya has teamed up with Choice Bank to introduce WayaWaya Banking, a digital platform that lets customers open bank accounts, hold several currencies, transfer money locally and abroad, and pay utility bills.

Under the agreement, Choice Bank supplies the regulated banking infrastructure while WayaWaya builds the technology and oversees the customer experience.

The service will operate within the regulatory framework of the Central Bank of Kenya, ensuring compliance with local banking rules.

WayaWaya describes its approach as "Intelligent Adaptive Banking," using artificial intelligence to tailor dashboards and financial tools to individual users such as entrepreneurs, salaried professionals and investors.

For entrepreneurs, the platform highlights cash‑flow visibility and expense tracking; salaried users receive budgeting and savings features; investors see prioritized investment transaction tools.

The AI system can also adjust as a customer’s financial situation evolves, for example when a salaried professional starts a business and needs business‑payment tools.

Choice Bank’s Chief Commercial Officer, Patrick Russel, said the bank’s infrastructure will enable WayaWaya users to access full banking services directly within the app.

WayaWaya aims to build a pan‑African neobank, linking services across markets so that a Kenyan business expanding to Nigeria or Uganda can use a single platform rather than separate banking systems.

Founder and CEO Teddy Ogallo emphasized that the partnership reflects a shift from product‑centric banking to customer‑centric experiences, especially for cross‑border enterprises.
