Bayern Munich confirmed that head coach Vincent Kompany was taken to a Munich hospital on Friday after collapsing while observing a training session involving the club’s reserve team.

Medical examinations are under way and the club said Kompany will remain under medical supervision.

An emergency helicopter landed at the training ground following the incident.

Bayern announced that Kompany will temporarily step away from his coaching duties, with assistant Aaron Danks and the remaining staff taking charge of training and matches until further notice.

Club board member for sport Max Eberl said the health of Vincent Kompany is the highest priority and that he will receive all necessary medical care and support.

Kompany had been battling a viral infection since the previous week, which limited his involvement during Bayern’s 6‑1 Bundesliga win over RB Leipzig and caused him to miss several training sessions.

He returned to the touchline for the 2‑2 draw against Arsenal but later admitted he pushed himself despite feeling unwell, describing the illness as a “nasty virus”.

The precise cause of Friday’s collapse remains unclear, and Bayern will face Freiburg on Sunday without Kompany on the sidelines.
