The UK Home Office released its Monthly Entry Clearance Visa Applications report for the year ending September 2026, highlighting clear seasonal patterns across work, study and family routes.

August recorded the highest volume of sponsored study visa applications, reflecting the start of the UK academic year, with a secondary, smaller peak in December for later‑starting courses.

Temporary work routes, especially the Youth Mobility Scheme and the Seasonal Worker route, see most submissions in spring, although neither route permits dependants.

Year‑to‑date figures show a 19% drop in main sponsored study visa applications to 352,500, while student dependant applications fell 31% to 15,700, a decline linked to restrictions introduced on 1 January 2024 that limit family accompaniment.

Skilled Worker and Health and Care Worker applications have continued to decline since mid‑2024, with main applicant numbers down 43% to 26,400 for Skilled Workers and 63% to 7,500 for Health and Care Workers, reflecting higher salary thresholds, stricter skill and language requirements, and a visa‑brake introduced in March 2026.

Family visa applications fell 27% to 60,200, partly due to the suspension of new Refugee Family Reunion applications from 4 September 2025.

The Home Office cautioned that the figures remain provisional and will be updated in quarterly Immigration System Statistics, with the next monthly update slated for 12 November 2026.

Officials noted that higher application volumes in August do not imply higher approval rates; the peak simply reflects applicant timing.
