Uganda's Ministry of Health issued a statement on October 20, 2026, confirming that the country has no active Ebola cases following Nigeria's confirmation of a case involving a woman who transited through Uganda earlier in the month.

The Nigerian patient had travelled from eastern Democratic Republic of Congo to Nigeria, passing through Uganda without showing any Ebola symptoms while in Ugandan territory.

Ugandan officials noted that Nigeria has not yet provided the full travel and clinical history of the patient, leaving some details under review.

In response, the ministry announced intensified health screening at all points of entry to mitigate any potential risk.

The public was urged to remain calm and adopt basic preventive measures such as regular handwashing and using hand sanitiser.

Residents seeking information or wishing to report suspected cases were directed to a toll‑free hotline (0800‑100‑066), SMS alert (6767), U‑Report line (8500), or email (info@health.go.ug).

The ministry emphasized that cross‑border surveillance remains critical given Uganda's proximity to eastern DRC, a historic source of Ebola outbreaks.

Health authorities said they would continue monitoring the situation closely and provide updates as more information becomes available from Nigerian officials.
