On 26‑27 October 2026, Uganda and Kenya concluded four memoranda of understanding during the opening day of the fifth Uganda‑Kenya Coast Tourism and Innovation Summit held at the Sarova White Sands Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa.
Two of the MoUs create formal links between the Kenya Association of Travel Agents and the Uganda Association of Travel Agents, and between the Kenya Association of Tour Operators and the Association of Uganda Tour Operators.
The remaining agreements pair the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry with Uganda’s Private Sector Foundation and also with the Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre, extending cooperation into broader trade and agribusiness sectors.
Organisers, led by the Ugandan Consulate in Mombasa, said the summit’s agenda centred on removing policy obstacles, improving regional mobility and harnessing technology to expand tourism opportunities.
Delegates explored digital tourism platforms and smart destination management, with young innovators showcasing technology solutions aimed at enhancing visitor experiences across both nations.
Uganda’s first deputy prime minister, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, highlighted Article 104 of the East African Community treaty, noting that free movement of people, goods and services makes tourism the first sector to feel integration benefits.
The summit will issue a communiqué that sets out institutional responsibilities and timelines, with progress slated for review at the 2027 edition of the event.
