In Turbo Sub‑County, 23‑year‑old student Shammah Kipkemboi has registered for a studio unit under the social‑housing tier of the Pioneer Housing Project in Kapseret, paying a Sh32,000 deposit and committing to Sh3,800 monthly instalments for a Sh640,000 unit.

Kipkemboi’s parents will support the first five months of payments before he assumes full responsibility, and he has been allocated a unit on the 14th floor pending final approval.

In Soy Sub‑County, 27‑year‑old public‑health graduate Stella Bittok secured a one‑bedroom unit valued at Sh960,000, after a Sh48,000 deposit, and will pay Sh5,200 each month from her internship stipend.

Bittok plans to live in the unit but may rent it out if her job location changes, noting that the instalment model avoids the large lump‑sum needed for land purchase and construction.

Both young beneficiaries view the scheme as a long‑term investment, allowing them to build assets while completing studies or gaining employment, rather than merely providing shelter.

The Pioneer Housing Project comprises 2,157 units and was 84 % complete at the time of reporting, with some sections nearing 90 % and full completion expected by 10 October 2026.

Launched in 2022 by President William Ruto, the Affordable Housing Programme aims to deliver at least 200,000 affordable units annually, offering social, affordable and market‑rate options with instalment‑based payments to create jobs for young Kenyans.
