Insurance technology firm Turaco and micro‑finance specialist VisionFund International signed a global partnership aimed at expanding affordable insurance for low‑income households in emerging markets.
The two organisations already serve roughly 250,000 people in Kenya and Uganda through existing products, and the new agreement will build on that base.
VisionFund will leverage its micro‑finance network to distribute the insurance offerings, allowing families to purchase coverage through platforms they already trust.
The partnership will focus on preventative and outpatient health insurance, helping households obtain early medical care and avoid costly treatment later.
VisionFund International’s CEO Edgar S. Martinez said the collaboration will extend protection against financial shocks such as illness, death, disability and climate‑related events.
Kenya and Uganda remain the primary markets, while Tanzania, Ghana, Zambia and Rwanda are earmarked for possible future expansion.
Turaco’s CEO Ted Pantone highlighted that integrating insurance into existing financial products has already shown promise in Kenya and Uganda.
Both parties intend to explore linking insurance products with World Vision programmes and to partner with other micro‑finance institutions seeking similar integration.
The broader goal is to make insurance more accessible, reducing the risk that unexpected medical costs or loss of income push families into poverty.
