The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal discharged the orders that had halted the registration of the Ukombozi Alliance, removing the legal block that prevented further administrative steps.
The suspension originated from a name dispute filed under case PPDT/E007/2026 by Allan Jayuga Akivaga against the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties and the Wiper Democratic Movement‑Kenya.
The dispute centred on the reservation of the party name on 20 July 2026, prompting the tribunal chair Innocent Muganda to issue interim orders on 13 October that barred the registrar from approving, registering, gazetting or taking any further steps on the contested name.
During a sitting on Thursday, 29 October 2026, the tribunal lifted those interim orders, allowing the Registrar of Political Parties to proceed with registration in accordance with the Political Parties Act.
The SKM Presidential Secretariat announced the tribunal’s decision on the same day, noting that the ruling does not resolve the substantive name dispute, which may remain before the tribunal.
Separately, Uhuru Kenyatta stepped down as chair of the coalition now known as the Ukombozi Alliance, with DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua and Siaya governor James Orengo mentioned as possible successors as opposition parties prepare for the 2027 General Election.
