TikTok creator Kaluma Boy, whose real name is Vincent Kagwi Kibe, posted on Facebook on 14 October confirming he will not return to The East African University where he was studying on a full scholarship.

Kibe received the scholarship from the university in late 2025 after Bishop Ben Kamau announced the award during a thanksgiving service at JCM Church in Ruiru.

The scholarship covered tuition and hostel accommodation for a Sales and Marketing degree specialising in digital marketing, but did not include daily living costs.

Kibe explained that he left because the course did not align with his passion; he said his long‑term ambition is to study nursing.

He also highlighted that, despite the scholarship, he struggled to meet daily expenses such as food and personal upkeep, which his marketing side‑gigs failed to cover.

Project coordinators reported that Kibe had asked the university for a monthly allowance of KSh 6,000, citing his role as a university brand ambassador, a request the institution declined.

The decision sparked a heated online debate, with some Kenyans questioning his choice while others expressed sympathy for his financial and family pressures.

Kaluma Boy thanked supporters for their help and reiterated that his future decisions are his personal responsibility.
