Ezra Gacheru, who went viral for confronting traffic police over bribery, says he is now hospitalised after a series of violent encounters he attributes to law enforcement.

He first attracted public attention by recording videos of himself challenging traffic officers on busy roads, urging them to refuse bribes and calling on drivers to resist illegal fees.

Gacheru alleges he was abducted on three separate occasions, none of which were recorded in any police station register or occurrence book, a breach he says violates his constitutional rights.

One alleged abduction took place in Juja, where he says he and others were taken away without being told the reason for their arrest, contravening Article 49 of the Constitution.

During that detention, officers allegedly warned that he would be killed at 8:00 p.m. in a forest.

He further claims officers subjected him to severe physical torture, including repeated manipulation of his testicles that caused bleeding.

Gacheru says he was not brought before a court within the constitutionally required 24 hours, was denied contact with family or a lawyer, and received no medical attention during detention.

From his hospital bed, he issued three demands: a full independent investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights; state‑funded coverage of all his medical expenses; and immediate protective measures for his life.

No official response to Gacheru’s allegations had been made public at the time of reporting.
