The Open University of Kenya (OUK), Riara University and the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya‑AIST) have been approved to establish a presence within Konza Technopolis, the government‑backed technology hub.
OUK will focus on flexible, technology‑enabled learning, allowing students to study while working or caring for families, and will leverage Konza’s digital infrastructure for its virtual delivery model.
Riara University will broaden the range of higher‑education offerings at the hub, while Kenya‑AIST will specialise in postgraduate STEM education and research.
The Technopolis Development Authority’s chief executive, John Paul Okwiri, said the location creates opportunities for universities to work closely with government and industry, ensuring academic work tackles practical challenges.
Konza’s 336 Jitume digital hubs, established through partnerships with TVET institutions, will provide students and young entrepreneurs with digital devices and training for the online economy.
Officials expect the university presence to stimulate innovation, develop specialised skills and help translate research into practical solutions for sectors such as agriculture, health and education.
The three institutions together enrol over 33,000 learners on OUK’s platforms, offering undergraduate, postgraduate and professional development courses in fields like artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship.
