A white lorry overturned near China Square along Thika Road on Tuesday, blocking the Nairobi‑bound section of the busy highway and disrupting traffic flow in the area.

Images obtained by the outlet show the lorry lying on the carriageway with a Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) marked vehicle parked beside it.

Crowds gathered at the scene, attempting rescue operations, which further slowed movement on the Nairobi‑bound lanes.

Motorists were advised to use the service lane to bypass the blockage, while some resorted to driving on road shoulders to navigate around the congestion.

Triangulation data indicated that the jam stretched roughly two kilometres, from Kenyatta University to Kahawa Barracks, though traffic flowed normally around Githurai.

The cause of the overturn had not been established at the time of reporting.

Motorists heading to Nairobi CBD were urged to consider alternative routes as congestion built on the Nairobi‑bound carriageway.

Suggested detours included using Kiambu Road via Exit 4 to bypass the affected section and connect to Nairobi, as well as the Northern Bypass for traffic from Ruiru and surrounding areas.

Drivers approaching from Githurai were advised to take Githurai 44 and link to Kiambu Road instead of joining the blocked stretch of Thika Road.
