Esther Nduko, a resident of Ngei Village in Huruma, Mathare Constituency, has been discharged from Kenyatta National Hospital after several months of treatment for severe burns sustained in a house fire.

The fire, which broke out shortly after midnight on 20 April, claimed the lives of Nduko's two young children, Blessing Mutheu and Shine Mutheu, as well as her sister, Jane Mutheu.

Her husband, Victor Kitheka, survived the initial blaze but later died from injuries related to the incident.

Police reports indicate the fire followed a domestic dispute in which Kitheka allegedly attacked Nduko before setting the house ablaze, locking the door from inside.

Both Nduko and Kitheka were rescued and rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, while the bodies of the children and Jane Mutheu were taken to Waita location in Mwingi, Kitui County for burial.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko visited Nduko at the hospital and provided financial assistance for funeral costs, covering coffins, hearses, flowers, food and sound services.

Following her release, Nduko faces the dual challenge of coping with profound personal loss while rebuilding her life from the ground up.

Family members and supporters have appealed for privacy, compassion and continued solidarity as she takes her first steps outside the hospital walls.
