Sugarcane farmers will vote for five grower representatives to the Kenya Sugar Board on 24 November 2026, following the release of the final voters’ register and the list of candidates.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development issued a notice on 30 October 2026 confirming the election date and stating that the process will be conducted in line with the applicable legal framework and court orders.

Elections Committee Chairperson Harun Khator signed the notice, noting that the final voters’ register has been posted on the Board’s website and displayed at designated facilities as required by Rule 9(7) of the 2025 election procedure.

The electoral process began on 12 May 2026 when the Committee invited applications from eligible growers in the designated sugar catchment areas.

An extension to the application period was announced on 7 August, and the final list of candidates was published on 20 August, completing the preparatory milestones.

With the candidates’ list and voters’ register now available, growers are preparing for the ballot that will allow them to choose representatives tasked with voicing their interests on the Board.

The five seats are provided for under Section 6 of the Sugar Act No 11 of 2024, which defines the Board’s composition and the procedure for electing grower representatives.
