St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada has opened applications for a January 2027 intake that includes a new five‑year Doctor of Medicine track delivered through Northumbria University in the United Kingdom.
The January start is aimed at students from Africa and other regions who finish A‑levels or the International Baccalaureate in August, giving them a short break for travel, internships or rest before commencing studies.
Applicants also gain extra time to arrange visas, a benefit highlighted by the university’s Regional Director for Africa, Johannes Kraus.
Scholarship awards of US$80,000 are available for eligible candidates, with selection based on academic performance, personal achievements and a demonstrated commitment to a medical career.
Students who show exceptional potential, such as relevant healthcare experience or community involvement, may be considered for additional support after an individual assessment.
SGU says it is strengthening ties with African schools, counsellors and families through visits, information sessions and personalised guidance to clarify entry routes and scholarship options.
The university also provides a comprehensive onboarding process, including dedicated international student support teams, country‑specific peer networks and campus orientation programmes.
Clinical training is supported by a network of more than 75 affiliated hospitals and health systems across the United States and the United Kingdom, enhancing graduate outcomes.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, SGU reports that over 26,000 of its medical graduates practice in all 50 US states and more than 50 countries, making it the largest source of physicians for the US workforce.
Prospective students can find full details on the January intake, scholarship eligibility and application procedures on the SGU website.
