Africa’s leading electric‑mobility firm Spiro and pan‑African entrepreneurship specialist Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners (ESP) have launched the Women in E‑Mobility programme in Rwanda, aiming to help women become professional electric‑motorcycle riders and entrepreneurs.
The pilot starts with a cohort of 50 women who began practical riding, road‑safety, financial‑literacy and digital‑skills training in October 2026.
These participants form the first batch of a target of 500 women in Rwanda before the programme expands to other African markets where Spiro operates, with a continent‑wide goal of 5,000 women by 2030.
Women will receive access to affordable financing, including lease‑to‑own arrangements, to acquire Spiro electric motorcycles and use its battery‑swapping network.
Beyond vehicle access, the programme links participants to ride‑hailing, delivery and logistics platforms, helping them secure customers and build sustainable businesses.
Spiro’s Group CEO Anant Badjatya said the initiative is intended to give women the tools to become professional drivers, start their own enterprises and generate income.
ESP co‑founder and CEO Eric Kacou highlighted that motorcycle ownership is only the first step and that combined training, financing and market access are essential for business success.
Rwanda was chosen because of its growing electric‑mobility ecosystem and Spiro’s existing assembly operations and battery‑swapping infrastructure, which will support the pilot’s assessment of income generation and business performance before regional rollout between 2027 and 2030.
