Police confirmed that at least six people, including a matatu driver, died after a three‑vehicle collision on the Nakuru‑Eldoret Highway in the Koriomat area of Uasin Gishu County.
The crash occurred around midnight on Saturday, October 31, 2026, involving a Mercedes‑Benz Actros truck, a North Rift Sacco Toyota Hiace matatu and a Toyota Succeed.
According to police, the truck was travelling from Nakuru toward Eldoret when its driver swerved right to avoid a vehicle ahead, striking the Toyota Succeed before colliding with the matatu carrying ten passengers.
The impact forced the matatu and the Toyota Succeed into a ditch on the highway’s right side, killing the matatu driver and five female passengers on site.
Other passengers sustained injuries and were taken to various hospitals across Uasin Gishu County for treatment.
The bodies of the six victims were transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending post‑mortem examinations.
Police officers secured the scene, began investigations and arranged for the wreckage to be towed to Burnt Forest Police Station for further inspection.
The identities of the injured survivors and the total number of casualties remain under investigation.
The incident adds to a recent spate of road fatalities, with 17 deaths reported in separate accidents nationwide on the preceding Friday night.
Authorities highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety in Kenya, citing speeding, reckless overtaking, drunk driving, poor vehicle maintenance and hazardous road conditions as key factors.
The National Transport and Safety Authority continues to promote road‑safety awareness and urges motorists to obey traffic regulations to curb preventable deaths.
