The government has started a Sh632 million electricity connectivity project aimed at linking 3,169 households in Chepkorio, Keiyo South Constituency, as a component of a broader Sh1.6 billion programme for Elgeyo Marakwet County.
President William Ruto officially launched the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project on the third day of his North Rift development tour.
The countywide initiative seeks to connect a total of 8,975 households to electricity, with the Chepkorio phase representing roughly one‑third of that target.
While the project’s budget and household count have been disclosed, the government has not provided a specific timeline for the implementation or completion of the Chepkorio connections.
The announced figures refer to households slated for connection, not those already linked to the national grid.
Authorities expect the new connections to improve residents’ quality of life by supplying lighting, enabling communication, and allowing the use of electrical appliances.
Small businesses in the area are also projected to benefit from reliable power, which could support equipment operation, service expansion and overall productivity gains.
During the same visit, President Ruto inspected affordable housing construction, launched a major road project and toured the site of a planned modern market, underscoring a multi‑sector development agenda for the region.
