The Milimani Anti‑Corruption Court moved the sentencing of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari, former county chief officer Luka Mwangi Wahinya and businessman Charles Mbuthia Chege to Thursday because Chege was not produced from prison as ordered.

High Court judge Rose Ougo last week overturned the acquittals of Wangari and the two co‑accused on money‑laundering charges, directing them to appear before the Milimani Anti‑Corruption Court for mitigation and sentencing.

During Monday’s hearing, Wangari sought release on cash bail pending mitigation, but the court rejected the request and ordered her to remain at Lang’ata Women’s Prison.

Anti‑Corruption Chief Magistrate Harrison Barasa had set October 21, 2026, as the date for the convicts to be produced for mitigation and sentencing, noting that Chege’s absence made continuation impossible.

The convictions stem from the fraudulent award of a Sh588 million road contract in Kiambu County, with Waititu found to have received Sh25 million in kickbacks from Testimony Enterprises Ltd.

Justice Ougo upheld the mandatory fines imposed under the Anti‑Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, rejecting arguments that the penalties were unlawful or excessive.
