Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna announced on social media that he will provide a new vehicle for Steven Otieno, a Kisumu‑based taxi driver whose Subaru Legacy was set alight during post‑rally violence in Homa Bay.

The incident occurred after a Linda Mwananchi political rally on 16 August, when an armed group of youths ambushed Otieno’s car on its return trip, leaving him with severe injuries and a destroyed means of livelihood.

Otieno suffered a fractured arm and multiple machete wounds to his head, back and legs, and is currently receiving treatment at a private medical facility while unable to work.

Background to the Homa Bay clash

The driver had been hired to transport passengers to and from the Linda Mwananchi mobilisation event, a political gathering that turned violent after the rally concluded.

The burning of the vehicle left Otieno’s family without its primary source of income, prompting them to appeal to rally organisers for assistance.

Steps to deliver the replacement vehicle

The Linda Mwananchi secretariat has taken responsibility for contacting Otieno, arranging his medical relief and coordinating the delivery of a new vehicle once he recovers.

Sifuna’s statement indicated that the replacement will be provided promptly, though no specific timeline or vehicle model has been disclosed.
