Seaway7 is set to begin inter‑array cable installation at Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm, located about 120 km off the Norfolk coast.

The cable‑laying vessel Seaway Phoenix will depart Eemshaven, the Netherlands, and is due on site on 19 October 2026, according to an Ørsted project notice.

Seaway Moxie will leave Eemshaven on 15 October to support the campaign, while Grand Canyon 3 will mobilise from Blyth on 17 October for pre‑trench surveys and trenching starting 20 October.

The contract, awarded to Seaway7 in 2024, covers the transport and installation of 192 inter‑array cables rated at 66 kV, totalling roughly 500 km – a distance comparable to London‑Edinburgh.

Helix Robotics Solutions has been contracted to bury all 192 cables, and JDR Cable Systems will handle testing and termination.

The installation campaign is expected to run for more than 300 days, a timeline originally slated for the third quarter of 2026.

Hornsea 3, a 2.9 GW project with 197 Siemens Gamesa turbines, aims for completion by the end of 2027 and will power over 3.3 million UK homes once operational.

The wind farm’s two offshore HVDC converter stations, installed in September 2026, will transmit power via two export cables and an interlink cable of about 350 km supplied by NKT, feeding an onshore converter at Swardeston near Norwich.

Funding for Hornsea 3 comes from Ørsted, which retains a 50 % stake, and Apollo‑managed funds, which own the other half and will finance half of the remaining construction costs; Mubadala Investment Company also contributed $325 million in May 2026.

The project is supported by a contract‑for‑difference with a strike price of £37.35 per MWh (2012 prices) for up to 15 years from commissioning, providing revenue certainty.
