President William Ruto said the government will invest Sh1 billion in last‑mile electricity connectivity for Kacheliba Constituency, the largest single‑constituency allocation for power in Kenya.
At Konyao he flagged off the first Sh100 million phase, marking the start of the broader Sh1 billion rollout intended to link more households and communities to the grid.
The electricity push complements a county‑wide commitment of Sh2.3 billion to connect 10,000 homes across West Pokot and a separate Sh336 million scheme in Pokot South targeting 1,960 households.
Ruto also launched a Sh1.84 billion upgrade of the Konyao‑Kiwawa stretch of the Lodwar‑Lorugum‑Lorengippi‑Loya road, aimed at easing travel for residents and improving trade routes.
The road programme was presented alongside the inauguration of the Konyao‑Kiwawa‑Alale road and an inspection of the Kapsait‑Kapsangar‑Tapach‑Sondany road in Pokot South.
During the same visit, Ruto outlined plans to develop dams through the National Infrastructure Fund to supply water for irrigation, domestic use and livestock farming.
The President was accompanied by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and other senior officials, who joined a public rally with local leaders.
