President William Ruto said the Tawe movement was responsible for derailing development projects in Trans Nzoia, including a state‑of‑the‑art hospital, during a speech in Endebess on Saturday, October 10.
Ruto contrasted the stalled project with nearby counties such as Kakamega, Bungoma and Uasin Gishu, where new hospital constructions are progressing, and warned that local leaders’ opposition was holding back the Trans Nzoia facility.
He pledged to resolve the delay, stating he has money for the hospital but that “Tawe” and “ujunga” (political obstruction) have hindered progress.
During the same visit, Ruto commissioned the Endebess‑Matumbei Road and announced further infrastructure projects, including additional roads, markets and student hostels.
He confirmed that Ksh140 million has been released to ensure the completion of a modern maternal and newborn ward at Endebess Sub‑County Hospital by December 2026.
Medical Services Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga used the occasion to urge the county’s more than 559,000 unregistered residents to enrol in the Social Health Authority (SHA) insurance scheme to improve access to care.
Oluga explained that the funding aims to boost maternal and newborn health outcomes, ensuring safe deliveries and localized infant care in the new ward.
He also highlighted the National Equipment Support Programme’s role in equipping Endebess Sub‑County Hospital with diagnostic tools such as a functional ultrasound machine and laboratory, reducing the need for patients to travel for tests.
