Masinde Mulero University of Science and Technology (MMUST) announced that Prof. Solomon Igosangwa Shibairo will serve a second five‑year term as Vice‑Chancellor, following his initial appointment in September 2021.
The university’s statement, released on Monday 28 September, highlighted Shibairo’s role in advancing the institution’s focus on science, technology, research and innovation.
During his first term, Shibairo was credited with strengthening MMUST’s academic and research agenda and reinforcing its commitment to excellence in STEM fields.
His academic career began with a BSc in Agriculture from the University of Nairobi in 1985, followed by an MSc in Agronomy in 1989 and a PhD in Plant Science from the University of British Columbia in 1996.
He later served as a lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Nairobi between 2011 and 2013 before moving to Kibabii University College as Deputy Principal for Academic and Student Affairs in July 2013.
After Kibabii attained full university status, Shibairo became Deputy Vice‑Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, and in March 2020 he acted as MMUST’s Vice‑Chancellor for six months while still at Kibabii.
The university’s statement concluded by congratulating Shibairo and expressing confidence that his continued leadership will steer MMUST toward greater heights.
