Veteran broadcaster Yvonne Okwara ended her two‑decade stint at Citizen TV with an emotional farewell on 27 October, thanking mentors, colleagues and family for shaping her career.

She also noted that leaving the newsroom would not mark the end of her journalism journey but the start of a new chapter.

On 28 October, Dennis Itumbi, Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects at the Office of the President, used social media to reveal that Okwara will head the East Africa government‑relations brief for Shuga Global.

Shuga Global is an organisation focused on behaviour change, youth health and creative content across Africa, making the government‑relations portfolio a significant role for Okwara’s experience in journalism and public affairs.

Itumbi framed his announcement with the phrase “Sponsor Chronicles Bureau,” echoing President William Ruto’s terminology for opposition ties, which many online users interpreted as a political jab at Okwara.

Social‑media responses were mixed: some commenters felt Itumbi had pre‑empted Okwara’s own announcement, while others praised the appointment as a notable achievement.

Okwara has not publicly responded to Itumbi’s post, though her farewell remarks highlighted a continued commitment to accountability and Kenya’s future, values she is expected to bring to her new role.
