Paul Waiganjo tendered his resignation as President William Ruto’s advisor on development matters at a press briefing on Friday, September 25.

Waiganjo had been appointed to the role on May 28 and was based at State House Nairobi, serving within the Office of Programmes and Special Projects.

In his resignation statement, Waiganjo said the structure of his office prevented him from addressing pressing concerns he observed across the country, especially in his home county of Nyandarua.

Background to the advisory role

Waiganjo, previously a gospel musician, entered politics and accepted the advisory position with the aim of delivering development projects such as school construction, hospital upgrades, borehole drilling, street lighting and job creation.

His appointment followed his departure from the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which he criticized for an unfair nomination process ahead of the July 16 Ol Kalou by‑election.

Possible political moves

Waiganjo did not announce a new political role but hinted at continued ambitions in Nyandarua County, suggesting a potential run for a county office or the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election.

He also urged the Mt Kenya electorate to register as voters if they aim to remove President Ruto from office, emphasizing that electoral participation, not rhetoric, would determine outcomes.
