President William Ruto visited his Koliel Dairy Farm right after completing tree‑planting activities for Mazingira Day, with the walk‑through recorded by his aide Dennis Itumbi.
In the video, Ruto moved through the animal‑feed area, inspected feed quality and gave instructions before entering the milking section, providing a step‑by‑step view of the operation.
The modern shed housing the cows was highlighted as well maintained and equipped, contrasting with typical smallholder dairy setups across the country.
The farm visit comes as Kenya grapples with a milk shortage that has pushed retail prices for a 500 ml packet to between KSh 75 and KSh 85 in urban centres.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe attributed the crunch to a severe drought limiting feed availability and middle‑market brokers outbidding dairy cooperatives for milk supplies.
Data from the Kenya Dairy Board show formal milk deliveries to processors fell from 84.4 million litres in June 2026 to 81.3 million litres in July 2026, with further declines reported thereafter.
Earlier in October, Ruto addressed the Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation Summit, claiming Kenya had overtaken Egypt as Africa’s largest milk producer and that annual output had risen from 4.5 billion litres to between 5.4 billion and 5.6 billion litres.
He also directed Livestock Development Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke to explore importing improved camel breeds and a sample of buffaloes to diversify milk production.
