President William Ruto announced that the Affordable Housing Programme is now linked to an estimated 1.1 million jobs, underscoring the administration’s focus on large‑scale employment through housing construction.

Speaking on the fourth day of his North Rift development tour in Chepkorio, Keiyo South Constituency, the president highlighted that the programme is intended to deliver broader economic and settlement benefits beyond merely providing homes.

Ruto reiterated the national target of building two million houses, with an annual goal of 200,000 units, and noted that 300,000 units are already under construction across Kenya.

During the tour, the president inspected the 380‑unit Chepkorio Affordable Housing Project, one of the developments funded under the national programme.

The Chepkorio project is presented as a local example of the government’s investment in affordable housing within Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Ruto also said the programme aims to reduce land fragmentation in productive agricultural zones, eliminate slums and promote well‑planned settlements to improve service delivery.

While the president cited the 1.1 million‑job figure, the administration did not disclose the methodology behind the calculation or differentiate between direct, indirect, temporary or sustained employment.
