President William Ruto opened a Sh1.7 billion road scheme that stretches 27.5 km from Mwaita through Bwage, Makutano, Kapsara, Minex, Aruba to Kesogon, connecting several communities in the North Rift region.
The initiative is part of a wider government plan to construct 270 km of roads across Trans Nzoia at an estimated cost of Sh18 billion, targeting residents of Cherangany and other county areas.
Improved transport links are expected to ease the movement of farm produce to markets, shorten travel time to essential services and strengthen connections between rural communities and urban centres.
Better roads could also help traders move goods more efficiently and enable farmers to access agricultural inputs.
The overall impact will depend on construction quality, timely completion and regular maintenance of the new road.
During the same development tour, Ruto launched the first phase of the Kiminini–Mitoto–Ndalu–Brigadier road, allocating Sh500 million initially and pledging an additional Sh1 billion, though release dates and completion timelines have not been disclosed.
The county also received a Sh7 billion investment to expand the Maili Tisa–Kitale Road, further enhancing transport corridors across Trans Nzoia.
In addition to road works, the government announced electricity projects: a Sh171 million last‑mile scheme in Cherangany targeting 2,147 households, and a countywide Sh922 million effort to connect 8,792 homes.
Ruto also inspected the construction of Kiminini Modern Market and commissioned a 27‑classroom block at Kiminini Comprehensive School, underscoring a multi‑sector development agenda for the region.
