While answering journalists’ questions, President William Ruto’s live broadcast was interrupted several times when the electricity supply at Kisumu State Lodge failed, forcing the interview to be paused until power was restored.

Ruto turned to his aides, asking why the venue had not been switched to a generator to keep the interview going, and urged staff to activate backup power.

He told journalists not to feel sorry for him, stating that as the “owner of this place” he should be better organised and take responsibility for the facility’s preparedness.

Ruto’s Nyanza region tour

The incident occurred during a four‑day tour of Kenya’s Nyanza region, where the president has been addressing national issues such as affordable housing and the broader development agenda.

Earlier in the tour, Ruto inaugurated the Kisumu West Sub‑County Police Headquarters, warning that individuals seeking to cause chaos or violence would have no space to operate.

Infrastructure projects highlighted

During the same engagement, the president launched the 12‑kilometre Rabuor‑Chiga Road project in Nyando Constituency, a Sh962 million undertaking aimed at improving connectivity between Kondele and the Kisumu‑Ahero Road.

He also announced Sh23 billion earmarked for eight new roads covering roughly 270 kilometres in Kisumu County, intended to expand the road network and boost economic opportunities.
