President William Ruto officially opened the Pioneer Affordable Housing Project in Kapseret, Eldoret, on 18 October 2026, marking a milestone in the government’s effort to expand affordable housing in Uasin Gishu County.
The development comprises 2,148 housing units arranged in 15 residential blocks, built since January 2024 under the national Affordable Housing Programme.
Residents will share a range of social amenities, including a swimming pool, clubhouse, basketball court, children’s play areas and a gym, intended to promote recreation and healthier lifestyles.
The estate also integrates commercial facilities, featuring a supermarket and 104 retail shops designed to bring everyday services closer to households and create opportunities for small‑scale traders.
A clinic and a kindergarten are part of the planned social infrastructure, providing basic health care and early childhood education within the community.
Internal roads, pedestrian walkways, landscaping and waste‑management systems have been installed to support a self‑contained, clean residential environment.
The commissioning forms part of President Ruto’s North Rift development tour ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Eldoret on 20 October 2026.
The next phase will focus on allocating the units, handing over keys to eligible households and ensuring the smooth operation of the shared facilities in line with government procedures.
