Postbank and the instant payment platform Pesalink have launched a service that enables cash deposits from customers of other participating banks at Postbank’s agent and branch locations.
The offering is currently limited to cash deposits; withdrawals through the same agents are not yet supported.
Postbank’s network comprises more than 600 agents and branches across Kenya, giving participating institutions immediate access to a wide cash‑handling footprint without negotiating separate agreements.
The arrangement builds on Postbank’s existing bilateral agent‑banking agreements, but the Pesalink link removes the need for individual technical integrations for each partner bank.
Postbank’s managing director, Dr Raphael Lekolool, said the move extends the value of the bank’s infrastructure and creates more business for its agents.
Gituku Kirika, CEO of Integrated Payment Services Limited – the operator of Pesalink – highlighted that shared infrastructure allows banks and SACCOs to broaden cash‑service access beyond their own agent networks.
Pesalink, owned by the Kenya Bankers Association, is the country’s instant interoperable payment network that underpins the new service.
Postbank, a government‑owned bank established in 1978, expects additional financial institutions to join the scheme in the coming months.
