Dr Chris Wallace Obura, a retired dentist and former Chairman of the Board of Management at The Nairobi Hospital, died on 13 October 2026.

The Kenya Hospital Association (KHA) issued a condolence message on behalf of the hospital’s board, management and staff, highlighting his contributions to healthcare, academic development and public health in Kenya.

KHA Board of Management Chairman Dr Barcley Onyambu called the death a profound loss and noted Obura’s pioneering role in the development of The Nairobi Hospital.

Obura was the first African doctor to treat patients at The Nairobi Hospital, marking a historic milestone for the institution.

He later rose to become chairman of the hospital’s Board of Management, overseeing governance reforms, operational modernisation and capital expansion projects that strengthened its regional standing.

Beyond the hospital, Obura held leadership roles in several Kenyan organisations, including the Kenya Dental Association, the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board and Kenya Airways Ltd.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Makerere University and a Master of Science linked to the University of London and the Royal College of Surgeons.

Obura was also a prominent business figure, serving as chairman of Olympia Capital Holdings Ltd., Express Kenya Ltd., and holding directorships at several other companies.
