Cape Town entrepreneur Tertius Wait plans to roll out Pakstoor, a South African online marketplace that centres the transaction on escrow payments, courier delivery and a post‑delivery inspection period.
The platform uses TradeSafe escrow; when a buyer pays, the funds are held by the escrow provider and the seller sees a “Payment secured” status before dispatch.
Pakstoor automatically generates a waybill with The Courier Guy, records courier scans under a Secure Tracking reference and displays the shipment progress within the same transaction screen.
After courier confirmation, buyers have 72 hours to inspect the item; they can either complete the transaction or raise a problem, triggering a Formal Protected Review while the escrow provider retains the funds.
Sellers are not charged commission; registration and listings are free, and completed sales are paid out in full to the seller’s TradeSafe wallet, with optional on‑demand withdrawals costing R5 (excl. VAT).
Buyers pay a 2.5 % Buyer Protection Fee on the item price, refundable if the sale is cancelled, which funds the escrow, dispute handling and protected handover processes.
Pakstoor also offers a Local Businesses product that lets registered firms create branded storefronts for R199 per year, with free setup and listing, targeting small enterprises that lack dedicated e‑commerce sites.
In‑person handovers are covered: the buyer deposits escrow funds while both parties are together, the seller releases the item only after a “payment secured” screen appears, and both confirm the transaction via a four‑digit code and biometric security.
Pakstoor’s public launch is slated for 18 Nov 2026, pending final end‑to‑end testing; early registration is open at pakstoor.co.za.
