On Thursday, 8 October 2026, over 400 mothers turned up at Riruta Level 4 Hospital in Nairobi for a Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Open Day aimed at delivering essential health information to families.

The open day was jointly organised by the hospital, White Ribbon Alliance Kenya, Britam Insurance and the M‑PESA Foundation, turning the facility into a community learning hub for the day.

Attendees participated in interactive sessions covering child nutrition, breastfeeding practices and family‑planning options, with health workers demonstrating balanced meals and explaining reproductive health services available at the hospital.

Mothers were encouraged to ask questions and share experiences with health professionals and fellow parents, creating a supportive environment for learning.

Each participant received a small gift, adding a celebratory tone to the educational activities.

Facility Manager Alice Ndwiga highlighted the importance of making health information accessible at the grassroots level, noting that the event equips mothers with practical guidance on child development, personal health and reproductive choices.

The initiative will continue beyond the single day, with Community Health Promoters scheduled to conduct home visits that reinforce the messages shared and link families to local health services.

The open day reflects Riruta Level 4 Hospital’s broader commitment to preventive healthcare and maternal education as tools for building healthier families across the community.
