One person was killed and three others injured when a pick‑up hit a private vehicle from behind, veered off the road and collided with a lorry parked on the side of the Mau Summit section of the Nakuru‑Eldoret Highway shortly after 8:00 am on Sunday, October 4.
The impact severely damaged the three vehicles and scattered the pick‑up’s cargo across the carriageway, prompting emergency responders and passing motorists to assist at the scene.
Witnesses reported that the pick‑up appeared to be travelling at high speed before the collision, and some suggested the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol, although these claims have not been verified.
The driver of the pick‑up died at the crash site, while the three injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment.
Police and other authorities arrived promptly, working to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow on the busy highway.
The incident caused heavy congestion, leaving many motorists stranded along the route as traffic was cleared.
Officials said further information on the casualties and the cause of the crash will be released as investigations continue, with inquiries focusing on speed, possible impairment, mechanical failure or other factors.
