The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rejected recent social‑media posts suggesting that its leader, Oburu Oginga, was unwell, stating that he is in good health and ready for a public engagement in Siaya.
The denial followed statements by popular blogger Maverick Aoko, who had alleged on social platforms that Oburu was ill, prompting a formal response from the politician’s office.
In an evening statement, Oburu’s office said the Siaya Senator was preparing a speech for the handover ceremony of former premier Raila Odinga’s mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, where he will address attendees.
The office added that doctors have advised Oburu to avoid heavy physical activity, but confirmed he remains actively involved in party and national matters.
A brief comment from the office affirmed, “Dr Oburu is well, safe, and in good spirits,” without providing further medical details.
ODM also criticised the spread of unverified health information on social media, urging the public and media to rely on official channels for accurate updates.
The party indicated it is discussing possible legal action against individuals responsible for circulating the false claims.
Oburu assumed ODM leadership after his brother Raila’s death in October 2025 and is now overseeing the party’s “Mwezi wa Baba” programme, a month‑long commemoration of Raila’s legacy leading up to the first anniversary of his passing on October 15.
