The Odinga family has publicly signalled interest in multiple elective positions ahead of the 2027 General Election, with several members targeting different offices.

EALA MP Winnie Odinga is running for the Nairobi senatorial seat, while her brother Raila Junior is eyeing the Kibra parliamentary constituency.

Other relatives, including Rosemary Odinga, are being mentioned as potential candidates for parliamentary and county seats, and Ruth Odinga has hinted at a bid for the Kisumu governorship.

Winnie appears to be gravitating towards the Linda Mwananchi opposition formation, whereas Raila Junior is reportedly warming to President William Ruto’s broad‑based government arrangement.

The political direction of Ida Odinga, the family matriarch, remains unclear, though her continued engagement with opposition figures has drawn criticism from Ruto allies.

Political analyst Billy Mijungu notes that the Odinga family is not operating as a single bloc but as a network of individuals pursuing overlapping yet distinct objectives across government corridors, party structures and county politics.

Mijungu cautions that the family name alone will not guarantee electoral success, pointing to Luo voters’ willingness to shift allegiance based on principle rather than personal loyalty.

The recent commemoration of former ODM leader Raila Odinga highlighted the growing visibility of the Linda Mwananchi formation, which attracted figures from across the political divide and underscored the fragmented nature of the Odinga network.
