UK‑based Octopus Investments is said to have reached an agreement to purchase the second stage of the Golden Plains Wind Farm from Portugal‑based developer TagEnergy, in a transaction valued at more than A$2 billion (about US$1.4 bn).

Stage Two adds 577 MW of capacity through 93 Vestas V162‑6.2 MW turbines, bringing the total planned output of the Golden Plains complex to roughly 1.33 GW once both stages are fully operational.

Construction of Stage Two began in 2024 after TagEnergy secured financial close, with Vestas appointed as the EPC contractor and AusNet Services handling grid‑connection works.

The project is already commissioning, with electricity from the new turbines feeding the grid and EnergyAustralia holding a long‑term offtake agreement covering about 40 % of Stage Two’s output.

A 150 MW battery with 600 MWh storage, linked to a virtual toll arrangement with Snowy Hydro, is part of the wider complex, enhancing system flexibility.

TagEnergy would retain the first stage, a 766 MW facility that is already among Australia’s largest operating wind farms, and could use proceeds from the sale to fund additional wind, solar and battery projects.

Octopus Investments, which seeks to expand its exposure to Australian renewables, would add the operating Stage Two asset to its portfolio, while the transaction remains unconfirmed by either party.
