The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) logged 35,334 vehicle registrations in Kenya for June 2026, according to its latest data released after the electronic logbook rollout.

Motorcycles dominated the registrations with 22,696 units, making them the most common vehicle type registered that month.

Station wagons, such as the Toyota Fielder and Subaru Outback, were the second most registered category, accounting for 6,717 units, followed by three‑wheelers with 1,254 registrations.

Other vehicle categories registered in June included 895 lorries, 707 trailers, 608 pick‑ups, 373 saloon cars, 296 vans, 160 minibuses and 148 buses.

June’s total represented a decline of 965 registrations from May’s 36,299 and was 2,316 below the 37,650 vehicles recorded in January 2026.

The drop occurred despite NTSA’s introduction of the electronic motor vehicle registration certificate, known as the eLogbook, which replaces paper certificates for specified transactions and is integrated into new registration and ownership transfer processes.

Across the first half of 2026, NTSA’s monthly registrations fluctuated, peaking at 37,650 in January and reaching a low of 28,137 in February, with figures for March to June ranging between 34,041 and 36,299.

In a related development, NTSA extended the registration period for imported vehicles from seven days to 60 days after arrival, following a High Court ruling that deemed the original seven‑day requirement unfair.

The extended window gives importers more time to complete registration formalities, addressing concerns raised about the previous short deadline.
