The National Land Commission (NLC) issued a gazette notice on 30 October authorising compulsory acquisition of 0.8401 hectares of privately owned land in Wajir County for a proposed Kenya Defence Forces air base.
The notice cites Section 110 of the Land Act as the legal basis and identifies the parcel by title deed number Wajir Township Block 2/1424.
Affected owners must attend public participation sessions scheduled at local chiefs’ offices, where compensation inquiries will be held.
Before the inquiry, owners are required to submit written compensation claims together with identification documents, KRA PIN, proof of ownership and bank details.
The Wajir acquisition is part of a wider government programme to identify private land for public infrastructure, including projects in Lamu, Kisii, Bomet and Nakuru counties.
In Lamu County, the NLC has scheduled inquiries for two parcels totalling 303.55 hectares linked to the LAPSSET Corridor, while four parcels covering 2.6588 hectares in Kisii and Bomet are earmarked for the Mugenu Bridge project.
No specific construction timeline for the air base was disclosed, but the compensation process indicates that landowner claims must be lodged before the scheduled public participation sessions.
