The College Date, a social platform built for Nigerian university students, reports roughly 1,010 registered accounts after its recent launch.
Founder and CEO Godswill Godlife Onah says the service combines dating, community discovery, messaging and student‑focused services, positioning it as an alternative to generic social apps.
The startup is now pursuing a $250,000 pre‑seed round to move from early validation to repeatable campus growth, with funds earmarked for campus acquisition, ambassadors, product development and safety features.
Growth has been driven by student communities, campus media, WhatsApp sharing and on‑ground ambassadors rather than mass advertising, aiming to build active networks on each university.
Revenue to date comes from premium subscriptions, virtual gifts (CD Coins) and platform fees on tutoring or proofreading services offered through the app.
The service verifies users through student, face and liveness checks, offers privacy controls and enables in‑app voice/video calls to protect personal phone numbers.
The core team comprises Onah, who leads product and technology, and Jackreece Sokeprim, who manages campus growth and student media outreach, leveraging an audience of over 50,000 followers.
