Johannesburg‑based digital insurer Naked announced on 27 October 2026 that it is entering the South African pet‑insurance market, offering monthly premiums of R40 for cats and R55 for dogs.
Customers can select from three cover types – accident‑only, accident‑and‑illness, or comprehensive policies that also include physiotherapy and routine care.
Claims are processed through Naked’s mobile app, with the insurer’s AI automatically approving eligible claims outside office hours; human review is reserved for cases needing additional information.
Early data shows a median claim‑payment time of 1.3 days, with 60 % of claims settled within 48 hours and about 29 % paid within an hour of approval.
A highlighted example involved a dog that swallowed a sock; the claim submitted at 22:30 was approved and the payment reached the owner’s account by 22:50 the same night.
Naked joins existing players such as OUTsurance, dotsure.co.za, Oneplan, MediPet and PawPaw, which currently offer pet‑cover starting at roughly R65 and R99 per month respectively.
The pet‑insurance offering expands Naked’s digital portfolio, which already includes car, home, household contents and standalone‑item policies, all purchasable and manageable via its app.
