Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) issued a notice on 4 November stating that water supply will cease at 3 am on Thursday, 5 November and is expected to resume by 8 am on Friday, 6 November.

The outage covers estates in the city’s eastern and northern suburbs, including Kasarani, Mwiki, Clay City, Ruai, Njiru, Roysambu, Zimmerman, Kahawa Barracks and the Kenyatta University campus, together with surrounding neighbourhoods.

Additional localities listed in the notice are Kayole, Komarock, Soweto and Matopeni.

The shutdown is linked to the planned de‑energising of the Karimenu Transmission pipeline, which the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) will switch off to allow crews to carry out critical tie‑in works.

NCWSC has asked residents in the affected zones to ration any stored water while the pipeline remains out of service.

The company notes that this is not the first recent disruption; on 26 October it announced a three‑day cut after an emergency closure of the NCT‑Kigoro‑Gigiri‑Kabete pipeline, which affected central suburbs and major hospitals such as Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital.
