Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) announced a 24‑hour interruption to water supply that will affect more than 40 residential estates across the capital.

The shutdown is required because the Athi Water Works Development Authority (AWWDA) will close the NCT‑Kigoro‑Gigiri‑Kabete pipeline to carry out emergency repair works.

The pipeline transports bulk water from the Kigoro Water Treatment Plant in Murang’a County to Nairobi’s distribution network and is managed by AWWDA.

Areas listed in the notice include Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Ngara, Parklands, Kibera, Nairobi West and neighbouring estates such as parts of Ngong Road, Forces Memorial and Woodley.

Further locations expected to lose water are parts of Southlands, Quick Estate, Hamayun Estate, Heshima Gardens, Akila 1, Space Apartments, Popo Road, Wilson Airport environs and several streets around the UNEP and the United States Embassy.

Residents in Kibera are advised that specific zones – Lindi, Kambi Muru, Silanga, parts of Gatwekera, Kibera Plaza, Kianda, Ayany, Mwembeni and Makongeni – will also experience the outage.

The utility did not give an exact start time, but warned that the emergency nature of the work could see water cut off as early as Tuesday.

Customers in the affected zones have been advised to make the necessary arrangements during the shutdown.

Shutting the pipeline can reduce the volume of water entering the system, potentially lowering pressure or causing a complete interruption in areas dependent on the affected supply route.

This is not the first such disruption; a leak on a transmission line at Gatundu in June 2026 also forced a citywide shutdown affecting dozens of estates.
